Reenah shares a poem and performance about her experience raising a son to be unapologetically true to who he is, despite society’s views on his sexuality and the conditioned normalizing of homophobia and hyper-masculinity.

Reenah L. Golden (spoken word) is an award winning performing artist, activist and educator. For over 15 years Reenah has been using the power of the Spoken Word to affect social change and create new ways of thinking. She teaches, guest lectures, presents and performs nationally and internationally. A native of Rochester, NY, Reenah is co-founder of Kuumba Consultants, an arts-in-education agency for artists-of-color, a NYSCA Individual Artist awardee and 2006 Writers & Books Teacher of Young People awardee. Her solo performance of Nilaja Sun’s No Child received critical acclaim and opened to sold-out audiences at Geva, Syracuse Stage, it’s university tour. Her newest work, Black Coffee; the Poets’ cafe received rave reviews for its innovative marriage of art, history, improvisation and audience interaction.

£iam Knighten (dance) is a native son of New Orleans who studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and graduated number one in his class with a pre- professional Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre. During his formative years in New Orleans Liam acquired skills in Street Jazz and Bounce dance. In 2008 Knighten with Garth Fagan Dance. Upon his return to the states Liam trained under Angel Ninja-Diamany learning Old Way Voguing. In 2009 Liam joined FuturPointe as a founding member.

Adrian Elim (multi-media) has always had a passion for storytelling, which has been an integral part of his filmmaking since he received his first camera at age 12. From the beginning his work has never been solely based on the aesthetics, but rather the many complexities layered beneath the visuals that help to provide vivid imagery. Adrian’s knowledge of various editing programs and preference for guerrilla style shooting helps him to capture the essence of subjects on film. His work bridges the gap between the quality techniques of mainstream media and rich experiences one can only get through human interaction.
